Harnessing the power of the sun - photovoltaics for a better future.
The global temperature is rising continuously due to climate change and Germany is not spared. The consequences are catastrophic: melting icebergs, rising sea levels, withering fields and the extent of environmental disasters are constantly increasing. To combat climate change, we urgently need to reduce CO2 emissions. An important step in this direction is the use of clean energy. Photovoltaics is particularly promising in this respect, as it can be used worldwide and the main component silicon (sand) is available in practically unlimited quantities. Photovoltaic systems can therefore make a significant contribution to climate protection.
Photovoltaic climate protection in Germany - myth or reality?
In Germany, photovoltaic systems are increasingly being installed on the roofs of residential and commercial buildings, particularly those facing south or east/west. These systems produce electricity that can be used both for the public grid and for personal use. Investing in photovoltaics is becoming increasingly popular. But what role do these systems play in climate protection in Germany? Can they really help to reduce emissions of climate-damaging CO2, or is this just a myth?
Photovoltaics as a solution to human-induced climate change and its effects
It is inescapable that the CO2 emissions caused by us humans are influencing the global climate and have already led to noticeable warming. This fact is confirmed by scientists worldwide. The effects are unmistakable:
- The glaciers in the Antarctic are melting
- Temperatures are higher than in previous decades
- New heat records were set in 2019, such as 40 degrees in April and June across Germany
- Storms, floods and droughts are becoming more frequent in developing and emerging countries, but also increasingly in Germany
- Extreme temperatures are becoming the new normal
It is urgent that we change our behavior and reduce our CO2 emissions in order to limit the consequences of climate change. We must act now before it is too late.
Renewable energies as a way out of dependencies
It is of the utmost urgency that we achieve the German and European climate targets. However, it is not enough to simply expand photovoltaic systems and other renewable energies such as biomass, hydropower and wind power. We must also avoid new dependencies in our energy supply. Importing gas and oil from other countries not only means high costs for energy sources, but also the financing of authoritarian regimes. Switching to renewable energies offers us the opportunity to become economically and politically independent. The availability of PV systems throughout Germany is of great importance for climate protection and therefore for our future.
PV system as an effective measure for CO2 reduction
It is high time we took action to reduce CO2 emissions and curb the catastrophic effects of man-made climate change. One of the most important pillars of sustainable power generation is the photovoltaic system, which makes a decisive contribution to reducing CO2 emissions. In 2017, around 24 million tons of CO2 were saved in Germany alone through the use of solar energy, according to the Frauenhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems. German energy policy is of great importance internationally, as many countries are inspired by our support measures for the expansion of renewable energies. We must act now to secure a future worth living for ourselves and future generations.
